Getting ready for the Christmas shows and filling crazy big orders this month. Anyone know of a way to clone yourself? Answer to that question momentarily. Quail are very popular and the fun bird cages, hooks, and ornaments are practical and pretty, so lots of small art being made in the shop in the past few weeks.
The Best of the West Master Gardeners convention was great, fantastic and sometimes hilarious speakers, and everyone with taste loves metal in the garden. Back to the cloning answer, my youngest daughter has been welding in the shop.! She is very talented and surpasses where I was at that age so it is very exciting to imagine where she will go with it. She is competent with the tools and I can do a quick check and then walk away and do something else to keep busy, a few pics of her enclosed. Now, working around her busy life, I need to get her inspired to be a production line worker, though who gets inspired by production work, which is why I still need a clone I suppose! She being a teenager, money will always work as bribery. Pics of my new employee in the shop working.

   Happy end of summer, as if those words can be said in the same sentence with any degree of honesty. So getting prepared for fall and the upcoming winter shows, restocking stores, finding new venues. Last weekend was beautiful weather for the Sooke Slow Food Cycle, I was part of the sustainable market place, most consumables of my business Metal Mermaid Welding is sourced locally. It is fantastic that people are thinking more locally, we do live on an island after all and getting back to the earth only makes sense in the short and long run, for both our economy and our environment.
   A few finished pics of the crazy weather vane with the top that will spin in the wind, and this week some small birds and cages are being made in the shop. I was making grape juice this week from the last of the grapes on the huge vine, and have torn up most items from the vegetable garden, the chickens are happy to see new things to eat coming their way, only a few apples left on the trees now too. Last week I was also sourcing more parts, that is a never ending job and imperative to the success of my art, I cannot go looking for a special part when I need it but need to have everything around me at a glance to keep the creative process flowing.
