Currently showing at: Butchart Gardens, The Sooke Harbour House, Abkhazi Gardens, Sea Cider on the Penninsula, and The Gallery at Matticks Farm
And the 'Slow Food Cycle' Sooke Sept. 23rd market at Edward Milne school 10-4

I really felt like making some birds this week to have some fun, my smaller more affordable versions in cages. Also got the weather vane finished, turned out very cool, pics in 2 weeks after client has picked up. Using found ball bearings and cutlery, screws, and nails I fashioned some mini versions of my birds, placed then in birdcages I had. Some are welded onto little wire branches and have attached chain to the top for hanging. Also welded up some popular garden stakes using rings to make  sphere added a little formed bird into the centre, and welded that onto stakes. to stick into the ground. Welded up one of my signature ocean arches fro this weekends show in Sooke, by the ocean, complete with salmon, star fish, and a sea horse.
Metal pick up happened this week too, I drop everything when I get scrap metal calls from certain people knowing there will be great usable pieces in there for me, it's kind like Christmas!

Crazy weathervane and the birds

The birds were finished off on driftwood and unique metal pieces, one with round bar bent around the wood, then photographed. A wethervane style creation is on the bench now, it has to be interesting, whimsical, and have some movement to it, it will continue on in to next week. Starting out I cut some fun shapes, fish, and an arm, and collected parts to get the general shape going with a post that can move freely in the wind. There is always an issue with rust and seizing up unless you have a sealed unit, but sometimes a simple bar running in a tube has less to go wrong with it. Almost summer temperatures make the shop pretty warm in the afternoons but I am not complaining.

Birds and a visiting dragonfly

Stores:  Butchart Gardens, The Sooke Harbour House, Abkhazi Gardens, Sea Cider on the Saanich Peninsula, Last weekend for Dales Gallery on Fisgard
Gallery: The Gallery at Matticks Farm

A tray of both shiny and rusty metal is transformed into beautiful backyard wrens and finches. A huge bright blue dragonfly makes my shop  home for a few hours darting here, there, and everywhere, encouraging me to distraction. I caught him once when he was on the fan and I put him out but he kept coming back in over and over again.

A time of harvest and country fairs, peaches were canned, jams and apple sauce was made this week in my kitchen. Still waiting for my tomatoes to ripen...
