Back in the saddle

Back from my second trip down to Florida feeling very refreshed and invigorated. It was the palm trees, the ocean waves, the fields of orange trees, being outside in the warm sun every day, visiting with family, and the fishing! The inter coastal waterways are a great way to get out on the water if the ocean is rough and windy, there is so much to see and still fish salt. Manatees, fish in every color and size, multi million dollar houses, massive boats, birds, and beautiful sunsets.

Fished twice this time, all in the name or research of course. Something I had never done before, night fishing, which is pretty crazy because I am kind of night blind. It was a hoot when you get used to the feel of it, fishing by docks with lights, catch and release snooks, and rock and lady fish, a 4 hour charter goes really fast! Captain Steve Brittain of Nightlite Charters was awesome, funny, and very informative and patient, handling live shrimp bait and fish all night. Can't wait to do it again!

Cleaned up scrap metal and took a load out in my few days back, yes, I can part with some of it, because... yesterday I picked up some from a yard and shed clean up. Have been researching copper, bringing in a shipment of cold roll sheet metal, looking into Florida Art Shows, and waiting to hear back from the Filberg. Welding this week, I'm thinking fish.

Beautiful Metal Mermaids welded this week, and a couple of crow arches with amber and charcoal colored glass leaves. Clients came by almost every day I was in the shop and I even had the luxury of a scrap metal delivery, thank you for those of you who save metal for me, it makes every day like Christmas! Florida trip is on the agenda again next week so I will talk to everyone when I am back and post more holiday pics. Scroll down to heck out last weeks blog, coolest Florida store ever!
These metal mermaids below are a mid sized mermaid that have been customized and super decorated like the large style, they are special and ear marked for travel back with me to Florida, look for more this spring! A few pictures to show the progression of steps I go through. One of a kind with special color combinations and themed jewellery decorating. Really fun to make!

Mermaids in Florida

Wow, though I went to see beaches, Florida has some of the best most creative stores I was surprised to see. My favorite so far, hands down is The Sea Hagg and I had to do a feature on it here. An absolute crazy collection inside and out of anything nautical you could possibly want, it starts before you even enter the property with the mermaid car out front and the whymsical welded gate surrounding, from antiques and old boat parts, fishing rods, anchors hundreds of years old, architectural pieces, to beautiful stained glass fish and cement sculptures made by local artists. Jewellery, oars, floats, starfish, lamps, and curios you thought you had only dreamt up. This store is on Cortez rd, gulf of Mexico side, just before you cross the bridge to Anna Maria Island in Florida. It is a must see and a very memorable way to spend part of your day, look up, down, and all around, expect to spend an hour at least!
Even better pictures on the website at www.seahagg.com check it out! Super inspiring as what a store could and should look like, a mix between antiques road show, garage sale extrodinaire, and art gallery!!!

Thank-you to every one of my clients who came to either buy from me or just to say hello at shows, or those who came to the Metal Mermaid Welding studio and workshop this year!

A lot of art has left the studio in the last few weeks to new homes and as gifts under the tree, with great parking, no crowds, and amazing one of a kind pieces to browse through it will be the most relaxing shopping experience of the season to visit here. I will be taking a holiday then will get right back into the shop to start creating more unique and one of a kind pieces. I am taking things in a new direction this year and am excited to see what will happen!

Thank-you again for your continued patronage and support and I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and all the best  for the New Year!!! A few of my home decorating Christmas pictures to sign out the old year, enjoy, as I head for the sun!
